OVERVIEW

The first luxury resort in the Maldives’ pristine Thaa Atoll, occupying an island in the archipelago’s southwest, Maalifushi encapsulates the spirit of an idyllic tropical life—serving the experience of a barefoot luxury and the pure escape-from-it-all.

PRACTICAL INFO

Location

Located in the sparkling turquoise waters of Thaa Atoll, Maalifushi offers a mix of 62 exquisite villas and suites, both on land and over-water. Untouched by large-scale development, the Thaa Atoll is the perfect find for all seekers of underwater wonders—as colourful reef fish and sea creatures in their thousands congregate around the coral reefs. There are some excellent breaks nearby, and surrounding Maalifushi is a string of smaller uninhabited islands, around which whale shark sightings are common.

Accomodation

In contrast to the jungle exterior, the villas and suites are luxurious, beautifully comfortable and very spacious.Created by Japanese architect Koichiro Ikebuchi, the hotel will feature a mix of 66 beach villas, overwater villas and garden suites. The design references indigenous architecture, but its sophisticated, understated style reflects the island’s tranquil setting. The overwater suites and villas are built off wooden walkways, laid over the shallow lagoon and feature their own private terraces. Families with children will no doubt prefer the garden rooms, secluded in the island’s lush greenery.

Services

The island offers guests three dining options; Madi, the all day dining restaurant where international cuisine is given a Maldivian twist and 'Tai', a Japanese-inspired restaurant serving sashimi and sushi. 'Thila' pool and lounge bar also serves light meals, wood oven baked pizzas and ice-cream. Maalifushi is also home to an award winning Shambhala Spa offering holistic, Asian-inspired treatments including signature messages, facials and Ayurveda. The eight treatment rooms are set over-water and are delightfully light and airy. The spa also offers complimentary yoga each day and has an indoor and outdoor pavilions.
